Project Description
While studying graphics abroad at Nottingham Trent University, I was tasked with reimagining a vinyl cover design for 'Hell's Ditch' by the Pogues.
—
In my conceptual development and research for this project, I was heavily inspired by the textures and grit found in local British pubs and their outdoor smoking areas; as his type of environment is what the band is predominantly associated with.
—
The spills, stains, dirt, and used cigarettes that littered the landscape of these spaces seemed appropriate the the drunken and grime-y character of the Pogues and their music.
—
I chose to use photography to bring this visual story to life, using a crumpled up, digitally modified bar tab receipt for the track list on the back side of the album. I also used vine charcoal to write the album name into the asphalt; emulating the tracks of a freshly snubbed cigarette.
